MEET THE OWNER
Sophia Royal is an accomplished stylist with over 27 years of experience in the hair industry. At an early age, Sophia was inspired to become a hairstylist due to her biracial descent. As half Asian and African-American it was often difficult to manipulate her textured hair. At the age of 16, while attending high school, Sophia enrolled in cosmetology school. She graduated a month after High School and became a licensed stylist at the age of 18.
During her tenure as a stylist, She has taken several educational classes, and has assisted world renowned Master Cutter and Stylist Masaki Inoue, who has been Sophia’s mentor for over 10 years. Sophia has been an educator for the last 15 years, empowering stylists with knowledge, skills, and techniques to serve their clients. She is passionate about the industry and being an artist.
In 2009, Sophia opened Salon Philosophie, which is a full service, multicultural salon that services all textures of hair. She is able to implement the business concepts she has learned throughout the years and apply them within her Salon. Sophia provides an avenue for her stylists to increase their knowledge on the latest industry trends and apply to their individual creative ideas for their day to day business.
As a result, this experience has led to Sophia's success in major fashion and hair shows and work that has been featured in "Knot Magazine". Sophia has been instrumental in the community by providing mentorship to up and coming stylists, as well as salon business owners. Sophia is a firm believer of education, quality work, customer service, time management and giving back to the community.
